And I have run my second marathon now… This time it was in Ballina, Co. Mayo. Small marathon, just about 40 participants but atmosphere was great. We have met MCI members as well as organizers from Ballina AC. You can actually say that it was a family weekend not just a race.
Dublin Series getting closer
<– Got that in the post today… That just means next 4 runs for me. Seems that Summer will be busy. Starting from end of June for next 4 months (always towards end of it) I will have one run from the Dublin Series. On the beginning 5 miles, month after 10 km, August 10 miles and finish with half marathon…
Nice marathon
So it has been decided… Next marathon will be in Nice at 9th of November. It should be a really nice one when it comes to views. Whole route between Nice and Cannes leads just on the Mediterranean seaside. Considering that we both, me and my Wife, love the South of France, Alpes Maritimes (or as they are calling that region here French Riviera). So coming back there in different time than Summer would be nice and connecting that with running marathon will be great…
Surprise
Before marathon me and my Wife we had two days pasta party to get as much carbs into body as possible (at least me 😉 )… Was trying to avoid irritation to stomach. Just in case before run I had bar of chocolate. And everything seems to be working well (was just missing my runs during weekend).
Everything went well
Now that all the marathon excitement had settled it’s time to summarize the fundraising efforts. I must admit I wasn’t expecting such a good result in both race time and amount collected. It was a challenge and my first time in both cases. But having committed myself to that task I had to deliver 😉
1st marathon completed
After nerve wracking last couple of days today I have finally faced my fear… first marathon.
I woke up today quite early to be sure that I eat my breakfast two hours before the run and avoid unnecessary surprises. That sounds like I was quite reasonable but still couldn’t find a place for myself in the morning. 7 times checking if everything is ready, checking my hamstring and planned to leave the hotel at 7:30 (marathon was starting at 9 and to get there we needed only 15 minutes)… So nerves…
Nervous wait
OK… Tomorrow, 9 AM I will start my first marathon.
I wasn’t this nervous in a long, long time. I don’t know if I will last 26.2 miles, will I get stomach cramps and how would my pulled hamstring behave… So many unknowns… I’m probably overreacting but over-thinking the run is my thing. Usually nervous before the race and on the start line but just 2-3 minutes in and I’m enjoying it again.
My Sis first official run
My Sis has run her first official run, first 5km. You can find her ‘story’ about that race. Unfortunately it is just in Polish for now, I will try to translate it later. UPDATE – translation is there.
Wings for Life World Run 2014
Really nice run for good cause. Wanted to run it but it was in Kerry, quite far from home. But next year will take part.
Below details about the race takan from website http://www.wingsforlife.com/en/. On that website you can find more details about ‘Wings for Life’ charity.
Samsung Night Run 2014 – results
After the race already… Even with injury wasn’t too bad. Bigger issue was congestion on the beginning of that race. You literally couldn’t pass anyone (too many people, too narrow path)… Anyway, my time is below. Considering that last year my official 10 K race time was just over 55 minutes below one is ok (there was over 5000 participants in Dublin and just over 1500 in Cork)…
