Looping Cork…

…actually small part of Cork. Whoever run the Cork City Marathon would recognize that route. 5 loops beside river, then run in the park and that was about 6  km of the CCM route. Rest: marina run and through Blackrock Village with climb almost to finish of loop. First loop was little bit longer, we had to add two small loops around pound, rest same… Flatish for Cork but kind of hilly for regular marathon. I was really happy to be back in Cork where I have started my adventure with long runs. Almost a year ago I started my first marathon, now I was standing on the starting line of my 39th one. Long journey…

To be honest with you this marathon was really good. I was feeling great. Wasn’t expecting good result. Just wanted to have nice race and enjoy the run. We had great laugh when Aidan was explaining the route finishing with usual ‘You cannot get lost here’. But just a look on runners faces and you knew that they were puzzled. But whoever run the Cork City Marathon would knew the way. 2/3 of the loop was a part of the ‘big’ marathon just the way back via marina and uphill through Blackrock Village. Wasn’t too bad. I haven’t lost my way even that Aidan was trying to confued us with his accent…

I kinda knew that part of Cork and decided to enjoy the views, not focusing on the time. Thinking about 3:30… and after that time I suppose to meet with Bozena. She should wait for me at the finishing line. She was enjoying that morning. When I was running she went to Blackrock Castle Observatory and spent there whole morning and early afteroon. She had a really good breakfast in the Caffe there. Was so good that after my run we went there as well. I can’t recomend that Caffe more. Great food, nice staff and reasonable prices. Anyways, back to marathon. I was feeling good, with every loop little bit stronger. But I had one tought at the back of my mind – ‘Where is Bozena?’ Looping Blackrock and she wasn’t there. Didn’t know that she was enjoying so much observatory. I have finished third. Just over 3:18 and Bozena wasn’t there. I was at the finishing line having my Lucozade, water and slice of cake, enjoying my medal when Bozena showed up. She checked the watched and asked me about my running plan and the time. That was the third time this year I got 3:18. Maybe I’m not fast but looks like I’m getting more consistant with my times. Maybe I’m getting stronger?
