Two weeks ago I signed up for the 2015 Paris marathon… Why you ask? To chance my luck, see Alan’s face if I get in and finally it seemed a great opportunity to spend some time together. Had no high expectations, moreover was sure that the competition is so fierce that there is no way I’m going to win this one. On Monday Alan called all excited to share the good news, he was in! My inbox was empty… but spam quite full! And there it was, stating clearly the registration code for Moi. At first I could not stop laughing, it was very amusing (the people who know me will confirm that running is not my strongpoint (longest distance 10km).
After the initial craziness had passed I considered the hours of sweat, blood and tears to come and questioned this whole venture. After all I had a few days to decide before committing.
Things changed dramatically when I met with MIR (!) after work. Bursting with excitement I shared my plan with him (plan= running+ some other exercise depending on preference). He followed up with the very important question:
MIR: Do you really want to do it?
me: I think so
MIR: It will be hard and require a lot of training
me: and…
MIR: Sure YOU CAN do it?
That was it, I did not need to hear more. The last few words stirred up all the stubbornness in me.
me: What do you mean? Of course I can! After all how hard can it be?!!!
Victim of my own ego.
As a result I am to run 42, something km in April 2015 in Paris.
I’m looking forward to… croissants, smelly cheese and spending time on MIR.
