Through out my so called ‘sports career’ I never been injured for longer period of time. Usually I was
out for couple of days, week tops. Usually pain just comes and goes, no big deal. But this time it is different. First was that small pain during marathon run in Clonakilty. Nothing out of ordinary. But after that it was just slippery slope. Tuesday speed session pulled hamstring in the left leg. Not too bad. Day rest and back to running… Hamstring ok but felt terrible pain in the same leg but in shin. If hamstring pain was let say – 4 in scale from 1 to 10, then shin pain was about 7. With couple of days before Donadea not a great prospects… And, as suspected I have tried to run 50K on Saturday with really, really bad outcome. Lasted just one 5 km loop and decided to pull out from the race. When I was limping to the car I have decided that I need proper help. New challenge, find good physio and find it fast. I was looking someone local but it was really hard to get any appointment for Saturday. Actually it was really hard to get any reply on appointment requests. Thanks to Facebook and Finton’s recommendation I have decided that it is better to use physio with great reputation than look locally to save time on travelling. Anyway, decision has been made – Pearse Street Physiotherapy Clinic.
With staff working with Irish Olympians. Especially Aidan Woods who established Pearse Street Physiotherapy Clinic in 2006 all are more than capable of helping you with your injuries. As usual I was little bit sceptic. Pain is a pain, will go away eventually. But this time help was needed. Monday evening I limped into clinic hoping for the best. When waiting for session I saw all these pictures of Aidan with runners, hurlers, footballers and Olympians. So many people got help from him. If he could help profis then helping me should be easy. Ok, first quick talk about what happened, where pain is located. After that diagnose was made Tibialis anterior inflammation. According to Aidan it is not too bad. After initial discussion and diagnose it was time to lay down and ‘take it on the chest’. Special massage to get rid as much inflammation as possible. That was really painful. Each move of his hand, each squeeze almost cause me to scream. You can easily say that he has found my soft spot. But must say that Aiden has got rid of most of the inflammation in the shin. At the end of massage I was feeling so much better. leg hurts less. I got set of stretching exercises to do twice a day and appointment for next session. This time for sport’s massage… Oh, I thought that Aidan was causing me pain but as I was about to find out it was nothing. Pain level when left clinic after first session 3…
Back in 3 days… for more pain.
