End of January. Time to get into the car and head straight to Lilliput again for marathon. This time at least I knew where to go. This time unfortunately My Wife wasn’t with me. Sometimes biggest supporter need to get rest as well. But wasn’t traveling alone. Fellow runner – Tara – was looking for lift to Lilliput. Was nice to have company when driving but as well nice to meet closer another marathon runner. To talk about ideas which go throught your head when you are on the 1st, 6th, 13th, 21st and the last mile. And gues what? It seems that it not just me or Mr Murakami who thinks that from about mile 20 supporters should watch out for you. You could punch them if you really tired đ Anyway, that just prooved that I’m not strange, at least too strange.
Marathon… had to be moved by 40 minutes for early starters and by extra 15 minutes for regular starters. Everything caused by temperature, during night it was freezing so it tarmac was really icy, that was dangerous. You were slidining when just walking. So, after small delay we have started. Besides EOI marathons series that was my first time I was coming back to run marathon which I already knew and must say that was harder than the first time. Probably cause I knew where the off-road track is, where are the tricky bits. And to add to that, forggot my watch again. So, had to run with my guts (or head if somebody prefer). One small loop and 4 big ones. Off-road not as muddy as last time, which was great but considering extra kilos on me and mental state that haven’t helped me a lot. Didn’t have any plan for the race, so was hard to stick to something. But was trying at least to stick to some runners who I knew are running my regular pace or slightly faster. That almost worked for me (pit stop ruined that)…
I knew that my run was too good and I wasn’t too supprised that my time was over 3:40… But 4:02? That was a nasty one, like somebody struck me with something really heavy though the head. Ok, excepted that… but another set back for me. I the state I’m in now that wasn’t needed but… forgot the watch so could just blame myself for that and my body for still not to learn to pace my runs. After run was talking Mirko Warnke, Polish runner from Galway met just before marathon. He told me that his time was about 3:45 and I had finished couple of minutes before him. That was strange… hmmm. Went to check results again… bloody hell, somebody put letter ‘e’ besides my name and Vincent Guthrie put early starters time against my name. Damn you Vincens, but I could now deduct 31 minutes of my time. 3:31, no watch, no running buddy, not bad…
Still need to work on my head… Thanks everybody for help…
Just couple of pictures and mostly not taken by me.
Great run Alan, sorry didn’t have too much time to chat to you, will catch up soon. Stay positive, and ring me if you wanna talk. May the force be with you
