Now that all the marathon excitement had settled it’s time to summarize the fundraising efforts. I must admit I wasn’t expecting such a good result in both race time and amount collected. It was a challenge and my first time in both cases. But having committed myself to that task I had to deliver 😉
My main fear was that the donations won’t reach any noticeable amount but with the help of my Wife and Caroline (colleague) we did great at the end. The initial plan was to distribute donations list and a short note about both the school and marathon. I have posted the note on my blog and sent as an email to co-workers and friends. Meanwhile I have received letter from head master of Cara Scoil, to use as supporting document. Equipped with list, note and letter I was ready to start the collection. Gave copies to Wife and Caroline. Left one copy at the local gym (Sanovitae Liffey Valley). I also used social media such as Facebook and LinkedIn to spread the word. My plan was simple and it worked quite well.
Here are some facts/comments::
- amount collected to date (2014-06-03) – 1100 €,
- received donations from different continents: Europe – Ireland, North America – Canada and Australia and Oceania- Australia,
- used two ways of donation – cash and PayPal,
- big thanks to everyone at Arconics, Containers Storage and Repairs, Jenkinson Logistics,
- family will always support you (special thanks to Caroline’s and my family),
- instructors at your gym are also willing to help,
- Facebook and LinkedIn post haven’t secured any donations,
- sometimes help can come from very unexpected source like owner of lodge where you stay over the marathon weekend will donate (Pat from Rose Lodge).
I would like to say BIG THANK YOU to all who supported me before, during and after the run and who donated money for the Cara Scoil. You were all very generous.
Please keep in mind that PayPal button is still active on the website, so feel free to donate 🙂
