For the first time I had three sessions of training with club in one week – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Usual Tuesday run besides lake in Roundwood, Wednesday speed session in Greystones and Thursday hilly session near Three Rock…
I already was familiar with lake run but speed and hill sessions that was something new for me. So, at Wednesday I met with Don at Shoreline track and was asked by him to run couple of laps on the track (lap 400 meters). Sounds easy. Yep, but these laps should be run in the proper manner. First two laps of warm up followed by… 200 meters 75% of my sprint and 200 meters recovery. Run, recover, repeat – 20 times. After 20 laps I was really exhausted. Even that my sprinting part (yes, I was sprinting, don’t know what is my 75% of speed) were steady (33 sec – 34 sec) with every lap I had to take more time to recover. But I was very happy when I have finished. Thought that I won’t be able to do that. When starting, one, two laps into the task I couldn’t see myself finishing it. Did it. Of course that wasn’t the end. Next exercise was 1 mile fast run – flatout. Was tired after first 20 laps so this one wasn’t great. Tired as hell but happy I have completed my first speed session. Hopefully next one will show my progress.
Thursday run was the first one I participated in. Tuesdays are flat, Thursdays are hilly. We have met near Three Rock on parking lot of one restaurant. On the beginning we were running slowly toward summit. Quite tricky path, especially when you don’t have trail shoes, just regular road ones. But it was really fun. After 2.5 km we have stopped before small path going straight up (would say about 25% incline) and there was our task. Run up 5 times and 4 times down (150 meters distance, climb of 52 meters). After that all the way up, another 64 meters and decline run to the car. Not a very long training (distance and time) but intensive. Really like it. Maybe hill are actually for me. Anyway, need to have proper shoes for that…
