Bonjour,

We had very nice weekend. Friends visiting us, my 10th marathon. But start from the beginning…
Last week Cezary, friend from Balina, who we have met when I have run marathon there called me asking if he can stay with us when he will be running marathons on Friday and Saturday. Of course there was no problem with that. He was comming to us on Friday evening after running marathon and on Saturday after both of us run another marathon we should pick up his Wife – Daria, with kids. That sounds like a plan so we had to put that into action…
Had to try it – marathons day by day. And there was (still is when writing this post) opportunity for me to do that. East of Ireland Marathons has organized event 10 in 10 – 10 marathons to be run in the 10 consecutive days. Of course I wouldn’t been able to run all marathons. Decided that I can try do two marathons in two days – day by day. The whole event is split between two courses. One in Howth, the other one in Clontarf. Runners are running on the Clontarf route in the odd days, remaining days in Howth. Because I wanted to do two days in a row I had to finish both routes.
And apparently my fitness level is not too bad. It is funny feeling when you know that somebody is watching you during whole run. Checking if you can run uphill at full speed and repeat that. You are trying your best to show that you are not a wimp, but when it comes to proper ‘running coach’ you won’t hide your weaknesses and if you would like to show-off you just won’t be able . It is proper assessment, nothing will go unnoticed.
… there is always somebody who will encourage you to run that extra mile (most of the time more than that). In my case it’s my Wife. Always cheering for me, always…
It was no difference this time in Craughwell. 30th of August and we were in beautifull county of Galway. This time route was splited into 8 laps, just over 5 km each. It was quite flat but when you run as I do it doesn’t make pin of a difference cause after about 20 km somebody if turning off the fuel knob. I don’t know how many times I have told to myself that I just need to keep my pace steady, not to fast, do not start too fast. But it is not working. I always starting strong and after 10-15 km I start to slow down, after half of the distance I just strugle to run. And again, nothing has changed with that…
24th of August 2014 is significant date for My Wife. This day Bozena has run run her first marathon. It was in Longford.
That post supposed to be written by Bozena but she still hasn’t done that so it will be me… Cause Bozena decided that she would like to run in Paris marathon next April I wanted to introduce her to distance which will be waiting for her there. It is always easy to say marathon length is 42.195 km but how long time you need to walk/jog/run whole distance, how many steps you need to take to make sure that you will cross the finishing line. Are you really mentally prepared to take that challenge? All that is really hard, so need to try it first. That was the idea behind that to show to Bozena marathon expirience.
Last weekend I have finished my 5th marathon. And like Roundwood one, this one wasn’t easy for me. I know that most of participants were running all 4 marathons in the Quadrathlon event and I admire them very much but I must admit that I was struggling… Again.
If you running marathons with East of Ireland marathons remember that when Don Hannon will set the course it will be really tough… and it was. Today’s Roundwood marathon was really, really hard. 4 laps with at least 100 meters incline on each lap. Considering that I have always run just the flat marathons (Ballina one had just 170 meters incline all together) I would call this one a HORROR one. But having said that experience was really nice and I was very happy to finish that one. My GPS watch showed 4:02:21 when I have crossed the finish line but have to admit that I have to use the facilities after first lap so the official time given by EOI will be probably somewhere closer to 4:08…
Second run from Dublin series and I could not run… Instead of running on the streets of Swords I was lying in my bed for whole weekend with flu and fever of 39 degrees. It has to be some kind of a curse that I cannot run any of these Dublin series runs.
I have just finished Marathon des Escargots in Portarlington and was waiting for quick massage session when I was approached by somebody who just greet me like that – ‘I have recognized you by your ponytail’. That was little bit spooky. But after couple of minutes this guy has explained that he is working in Santry just opposite side of the street where I used to run over the lunch break. He told me that he felt ashamed seeing me ‘doing’ laps every day. He explained that there was one thing which you could count to see between 1PM and 2PM on the Old Airport Road and that was me. That was very nice. Somebody over 80 km away from home and 100 km from Santry actually recognized me. Funny, to be famous person in that part of city. As My Wife already called me – Santry Tourist Attraction. Had to unfortunately disappoint my new friend by telling him that I have changed to place of work now. His reply was funny. He said that sometimes he is driving via Ballycoolin and he would be very surprise to see me running so far during lunch break 😉
